8 ohm bridged or 2 ohm stereo?

I'm about to hook up my Type R and was wondering which way would give me more power: Using one channel of my 2 channel amp which would be 500 W @ 2ohms or bridging it to an 8 ohm load? It does 1000W bridged at 4 ohms. So would wiring it at 8 ohms cut that in half making either way the exact same wattage or would it give me 600-700W bridged @8 ohms?

Depending on your amplifier, the 8 ohm bridged power is generally the sum of your 4 ohm stereo power. For example, if your amplifier is 250 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms, you should get 500 watts RMS when you bridge at 8 ohms.

Granted, there are exceptions to this rule with certain class D amplifiers as well as those that have strictly regulated power supplies. While I am thinking about it, what amplifier are you planning on using?

Its a Hifonics ZX7500.

So if the wattage is going to be the same at stereo and mono is there a benefit of running it a certain way? Does the amplifier do less work if it was bridged compared to running just 1 channel?

Its a 2 channel amp and a DVC 4 ohm Type R. So I can wire it to 1 channel (stereo) of my Hifonics ZX7500 and it will do 500 @ 2ohms or I can bridge my amp (mono) and wire my sub @ 8 ohms. Which is where I'm wondering what the output bridged would be @ 8ohms and if there is any difference in stress put on the amp from running @ 2ohms with 1 channel or 8 ohms bridged.

Never mind...
Run your amp at 8 ohms bridged.
Will I see more power? I always thought a basic rule was from 4 ohms to 2 ohms doubles power and from 4 ohms to 8 ohms halves power? Or will the amp run more efficiently? Just looking for some reasoning behind what I'm going to be doing and can't really find anything when I search.

You can not run a 4ohm dvc at 2 ohm stereo.

A two channel amplifier is TWO amplifiers in one case. Running a single channel at 2 ohms will be more stressful on the amp than running both channels at 4 ohms a piece (essentially what you're doing when you run an amp bridged at 8 ohms) and you'll still be seeing the same amount of power. Maybe even more, since amps run more efficiently at high impedance.

And bridged, you'll be getting a true mono signal.

Not to mention many amps will not even let you run a speaker on only one channel.

yes you can, he has an amp that puts out 500watts @ 2ohms x 2 channels or 1000watts bridged @ 4 ohms.

to OP, bridge your amp and run the 8 ohm load, higher ohm loads tend to be easier on an amp.

Think of it this way... you are getting the same power either way, but one way you are making half of your amp supply the power and stressing that half unnecessarily, and the other you are just not using. The other way you are using the entire amp= less stress on the amps internals.

Stop posting. For real.

And no you cant. What he is talking about is not 2 ohm stereo.

on the contrary, you should stop posting, you have once again ignored the content of his question and assumed you knew something everyone else didn't. He meant nothing about "stereo." because who has stereo bass? The only reason the word stereo was even mentioned is because he falsely assumed 2 channel was synonymous with "stereo" I addressed the question he actually asked. If you had payed attention to the question instead of being a stupid *** you would have known that.

If in your opinion i answered his question wrongly, give your opinion and stfu.

once again go away, you are whiny, spiteful, and normally wrong. take your childish know it all attitude elsewhere. I'm trying to help people who ask for it. bye bye now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Look at the title bro. And his question was answered. You added nothing to this thread, but ignorance and comedy.

And I am not spiteful or wrong, but your retardation is quite entertaining.
