I'm going to get this alarm for 500 installed, but was interested in the proximity sensor. This shop will install it for 100.00 but if I buy it on ebay for 30 buck shipped, is the proximity sensor easy to install? Also, the guy who owns the shop says window tint will not allow me to use the perimeter function, just when people pass through the windows. Anybody have a proxy sensor with tint? Thanks.

I have the Viper 791XV with the DEI 508D Proximity Sensor and tint. The perimeter sensor should work but I didn't set mine up for it at all. It will get on your nerves especially since it pages you. While I was tweaking it, it would go off if something passed beside it. At the same time, it will chirp if the wind blows, it rains, any animals (such as cats) pass by. found it to be more annoying than useful but I guess if your able to keep it out of those situations and keeping it in a garage then go for it. I have mine set with exterior (warn away) zone all the way down and interior zone up to where as soon as your hand comes in it goes full on. I have heard that tint does interfere with the audio sensor as well as piezos interfere with the audio sensor.

Buy the alarm online for a little less than $200, then take it to the shop...

Shouldn't be more than $160 to install, if it is... take it to circuit city... they'll install a DEI RemoteStart/Keyless/Alarm for ~$160... maybe $175 since it wasn't bought from them...

how much would they charge for the add-ons as well? i was quoted close to $500 for installation just for the alarm/remote start anywhere i looked.

Well if it's a BNIB DEI product they should, I guess they don't want your money.

My location usually shys aways from installing stuff not bought from us...esepcially alarm/remote starts... but if it's a BNIB DEI... we'll charge our price for normal install then like $20 since it wasn't from us.

First of all, I don't really like the "road shop installationers" at circuit city around my town, they are a bunch of jack holes. I know the guy personally at American Customs and I'm sure he would do a much much finer job on the installation. Money isn't that great of an issue, I just want the job to be done the best.
