710w Rockford Fosgate 2013 Lancer Evolution

Hi Guys,

I decided to pop up on these forums because I need expert testimony and advice. I'm usually on EvoXForums. I have a post there about my dilemma:

Audio System Upgrade - Store Quote - Thoughts? - EvoXForums.com - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Forums

I would really appreciate if any of you can take a quick glance at that thread and help me out with my situation.

Basically, I have the 710w RF package in my '13 Evo and I'm looking for a worthy upgrade. Keep in mind the Evo has very thin doors and most of the car is made from aluminum. I was recommended Hertz speakers by a local shop and Infinity Kappa from fellow forum members. They said that those are two of the best speakers for lightweight, thin doors. I was debating weather or not to change out the door speakers or just get a good head unit and replace the stock amp. The stock amp dims the bass at 30/45 volume and basically only the treb and mids increase when turned up past 30 and the bass stays the same. Also the OEM 10'' sub is a bit farty some of the time. Looking for some ideas for a good setup. I would prefer quality and crisp sound over loudness.

Also, I'm not planning on doing the installation myself, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a reputable shop in the greater NYC area. I had a price quote from avenue sound on sunrise, but I had some friends tell me that they're no good.

Thanks in advance!

You need help. I would replace hu, amp, and door speakers but do it yourself or have a buddy THAT KNOWS WHAT THERE DOING help you install. Price looks outrageous there they really should break down prices did you look online for equipment?

goto a decent audio shop, and ask them to put a decent package together for you (and break down the prices of each item and install of each item) then come back on here and post what they have suggested for your car.

I would also add a 10 inch subwoofer MANY CHOICES it looks like your going for SQ? You need deadener too, that will help ALOT with your mid bass iin your doors
Thanks for the reply. The Evo MR comes stock with sound "dampening equipment" but I'm going to rip it out and dynomat the doors and trunk. I have a couple buddies that can help with the install. Would you be able to recommend any thin door speakers bc I really would like to go with the Infinity Kappas unless otherwise directed.

I went to what I thought was a decent audio shop. It has a lot of google reviews and most are decent. However, not listing individual prices for the equipment and install is poor practice. I broke down the prices of each part on the invoice from that shop.

$270 ESK 165.5 300w

$160 ECX 165.5 140w

$350 HCP4 Amp

$170 Headpiece

$80 Scosche wiring kit

$50 DIN Kit

------

$1080

$600 labor charge pretty much?

First impression is way too overpriced. I like the way the Hertz system sounds, and they told me that they are great for the thin doors on the Evo. The ECX's- 140watt peak/70watt continuous; Coaxial. ESK's - 300watt peak/100watt cont. HKS- 250watt peak/125watt cont. The quote was for the ESK/ECX combo, but I have my eye on the HSK's. Also, I don't know if the HCP4 will be enough to run the HKS's let alone the ESK/ECX. The stock sub is getting on my nerves. I'd like to get two 12's and house them on sides of the tunk.

I hear the pioneer DEH80-PRS is great. I did like the DEH-X9600 as well as far as HU.

always better getting them to break down the invoice for you, then you can say "well i'll supply this and that"and you guys supply and install the rest ect....also ask to see some of the installers work. if he's decent he should have a lot of photo's and images of his work

I narrowed it down the stock speakers to the RF "Punch" P165

The P165-S front door speakers are compnents 60w RMS and 120w Max. The back door speakers are most likely the P165's rated at 40w RMS up to 110w peak

from my understanding you want to match the RMS, which is the sustained or nominal power, to the amp to prevent the speakers from blowing out. slightly less being better than slightly more for RMS on amp vs

Na I'm done with those guys. I'm going to buy my own parts from Amazon or Crutchfield and find a good shop in Manhattan to do the install. Long Island is overpriced for everything and usually the quality of work for any business is crap compared to the boroughs.

I would also suggest you looking into proper box designs im not 100% sure but i think you just want to throw 2 subs in way to small prefab boxes for the side? not a really good idea, different subs sound better in different boxes

fair enough, I usually suggest running slightly more rms than is recommended, and adjust gains accordingly..... tis worth doing a search on this forum, you'll find a lot of info to help you choose your gear and get it installed/setup correctly

The trunk in the Evo is stupid small. You can't even a body in it. I took out my spare tire, jack, and foam holders. The OEM sub is cased and bolted to the left side, the box setup won't work. I don't even think that I can even fit more than one sub tbh. The car's battery is located in the trunk as well as the window wiper fluid and the AYC fluid. I can't block access to any of those.

I recently took out that foam jack holder that you see on the right. But the AYC fluid is up against the right wall.

wow thats awfull tight in the trunk. can i suguest you have a fiberglass enclosure made to the shape of your spare tire spot to take up every bit of avalable space ?
Tell me about it. You should have seen the space with the tire in and the plywood and carpet on top.

I like the idea of a custom fiberglass enclosure. I don't think that I'll be putting the tire back in. If it becomes too much of a hassle, I'll just get one 12 and find an enclosure similar to the stock 10 (hope it fits). I'm not trying to go all out with a system in this car. If I had my old Altima, I would, but I'm at 350wHP/wTQ atm and performance and speed are more important to me. I would perfectly happy with better sound quality than the stock RF for my 100m round trip daily commute to classes.
