I've done the whole loud and low thing for a few years and am growing out of that phase. I still listen to music in my truck for about an hour a day, but I would like to move closer to a SQ-oriented system. I have an Image Dynamics 5.25" component set in some Q-logic kickpanels with about 100 watts of Infinity power on each channel. Then I just have a 15 inch Brahma with lots of power.
So right now my midbass is lacking pretty bad. I'm thinking the best solution is an amped set of 7" or 8" drivers in the doors since my kickpanels are already taken. And my mid-highs & highs are loud and clean enough. But there are several problems that arise here. #1 - The doors have a 6"x8" slotted "grill", would this affect output of the round midbass driver? #2 - With a typical midbass driver do I need to look at building some type of enclosure, or will output be fine with an IB setup? #3 - If mounting to the door is a good option, how will it mount? Will I have to cut the door or can I make an adapter ring/plate that bolts to the door and doesn't interfere with the plastic door panel?
I'm not a master fabricator but I am willing to put in the extra work to make this sound good. I already have room on my crossover for a midbass channel, I just need the speakers and a small amp.
