6x9 in the trunk?

I am working with a 1991 Toyota Corolla that did not originally have a stereo built in.

The car will only accommodate 4" speakers in the dash and 5-1/4" speakers in the rear deck and that still requires cutting. I was wondering if I took a pair of 6x9s and put them in boxes in the trunk, how would that sound?

The 4" speakers do an ok job on higher tones but really **** at bass. The 4" speakers up front only have that plastic cone thing in the middle, will swapping with a 2 way help any?

Everything will only have 22W RMS from the HU only. I don't plan to install an amp and I already have the pair of 6x9s.
