Okay so im gonna add some Infinity Reference 9612i to the box im building. What kind of dimensions sould these be? Is it alright for them to be square enclosures? Thanks.
please be joking... or really drunk? When I was a n00b I thought "how can it NOT make a difference?!?", but it honestly doesnt. Even most 8's perform almost the same in Free Air as in a small box.
I think you are still a "noob," because it does make a world of difference in some cases. Ask jmanpc, he's got a few things to say on adding boxes to small speakers. Also, I don't know of any 8s that perform the same free air as in a small box. Come on dude, have you actually ever heard one in a box vs free air?hate to burst any bubbles, but to be honest, it doesnt make a difference. Theres no such thing as a competition 6x9, but even the more expensive ones don't really perform differently in a box. When I was a n00b I thought "how can it NOT make a difference?!?", but it honestly doesnt. Even most 8's perform almost the same in Free Air as in a small box.
If you're gonna build a box so you can just position it in the back of your wagon (where you wont really hear it anyway), stay around .5 cubes, and as posted, avoid cubic/square designs (possibility for nasty standing waves).
I got em for free (new) and figured i might as well put them to some use. Im only using them for fill and they will have a HPF on them, so its not to big a deal i wouldnt think.will someone please start an ANTI-OVAL speaker thread.!!!! ... why waste the money????-- even a good 6x9 performs worse than a lesser priced 6," 5.25", or 5.5" component set. And about being loud... even crap can get loud...its more about quality of sound if you are in mid or hi freq range.
