640 SQUARE FOOT OF DEADENING, Complete Two Tone, HUNDEREDS of LEDs (2001 Maxima)

what did they do to the panels that fecked up so bad
Rushed it.

As a result, there was massive f'ucking overspray, color bleed, orange peel, what looks to be a PUBE //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif trapped beneath the clearcoat, etc...

They are claiming the paint and clear won't properly take to the rattle can paint that was used, which I might believe were it not for 6 of 40+ pieces that came out TO PERFECTION.

I am not going to detail anything about the shop as there is a good chance they are going to sued in a civil case. Yes, they f'ucked up THAT bad. I am not even going to talk about the paintjob as I don't have all night.

And they gave the stuff back to you in that state hoping you would'nt say anything?

Id LOVE to learn how to put LEDS like that on a switch....... but it looks like you got resistors and boards and stuff that i just wouldnt understand.

My overhead lighting in my car SUCKS!!!!!!!!

So what this build just sort of stopped because of the paint job?
What a let down
It's at a stop because, well, I can't pain a f'ucking thing because of the cold weather, either. You think you're let down, imagine how much I am loving driving a car with only some 10% of the interior panels. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

BUT, in any event, the weather should be warm enough to paint on Sunday, and the car goes in to the shop in a week or so to get fixed, so...I'm keeping my fingers crossed this can resume shortly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Brother, it's not the cold that's stopping work - my panels are all down to a 2000-grit wetsand and I cannot paint. The cold isn't what's stopping me; it the inability to paint the panels. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

LOL //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Admittedly, I would have approached the entire project differently knowing what I know now. [This] does not bother me one iota to be completely honest, let such a thread stand testament as one of penultimate displays of "holier-than-thou-ism" evident throughout the automotive enthusiast communities.

M5, if you're reading this, how about telling me what should have been done? Even if some aspects of it have been a waste of money, I've had nothing short of an awesome f'ucking time in doing so, and I honestly don't think there is a single enthusiast out there whom has not run across their fair share of "well, that was dumb" modifications.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ANYWAY, TIME FOR SOME UPDATES!!!

Alright, FINALLY WARM ENOUGH TO EFFING PAINT AND DO THINGS, WOOOOOOOO

Ok, so let's start with the next layer of sound deadening. What we have here is maybe 40sqft of Second Skin Luxury Liner. I am applying a single layer to the floor, there is also a single layer applied to the entire back section of the dash (cannot find the image, FTMFL, it took forever). I will also be applying a layer to the doors and a layer of overkill pro to the backside of the door panels as well.

Molded carpet, anyone?

CIMG4178.jpg

this is how it looks with a rough-in...I am going to have to attach the OEM fasteners tomorrow and trim the material accordingly to get the proper fit. Honestly....I love it.

Here we have about 75% of the interior panels ready to go in! Repainted, 4-layer clear. All they need is a 2k wetsand and come compound polish to go in...oh, yeah, well, getting that carpet finished would help!

Tomorrow is serious fukkin go time!!!

AWRIGHT, I had some repair work done to the max (exhaust related) and I do believe it served as the catalyst to get my motivation up and running again, sooooo here we go!

Rear deck...let this serve as a lesson to those whom are looking to install suede in their car and the longevity (or lack thereof) you can expect!

So, whatever, I've got to keep this in suede because there's a ton of spray glue underneath. Not a big deal, the rear deck is easy enough to remove anyway.

We've got some more deadening to do. I am going to be putting a layer of Second Skin Luxury Liner Pro on the doors since, well, I'm stupid like that. I am going to be using an industrial caulk used for vinyl as well as some gorilla tape.

DSC07983.jpg

THIS STUFF RULES!!! Well, the gorilla tape namely. I am going to be making much more use of this in the future. Before and afters

Next up is some more painting. Now, what we see here are two normal door panels, but of course, upon closer investigation...

...yeah, tape only does you so good. So, we're going to have to do it over around the sides. The OTHER problem is that when I went to sand after clearcoat the paint was a little thin, so I had to add a few more coats to the panel.

In order to get a really nice fit, I used my itty-bitty standard driver to tuck the tape in.
