I've got a POS 60 amp stock alternator on my truck. Currently, I am running 2 class A/B amps with about 520W RMS total (120W on components & 400W on sub).
With the gains set pretty conservatively, I get very little, if any, headlight dimming. The problem is, I want a little more output which leads to more headlight dimming when I turn the gains up slightly (to where they should be).
I was thinking about doing the BIG 3, but I don't know if that would be all I need to stop the dimming. Another thought was to get an aftermarket high output alternator, but a 200 amp alt is well over $300
I am also considering going with a Class D amp on the subs, but I want to go with a 150x4 on the comps to go active. I could gain some efficiency with the Class D on the sub, but the larger comp amp (class A/B) would draw a good deal of current.
Any suggestions on what I should do to keep from having to spend $340 on an high output alternator?
