for those of u that know the basic mechanics of an engine, u will understand this. http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060227/FREE/302270007/1023/THISWEEKSISSUE . basically what this guy has done is add 2 more strokes to the conventional 4 stroke engine. for those of u that dont like to read much....cliffnotes:
it starts out with the 4 basic strokes (intake, compression, power and exhaust) but after the exhaust stroke there is a second 'power' stroke with is called the steam stroke by the article. what it does is injects water in the cylinder which then immediately turns to steam, forcing the piston down. what this does is eliminates the need for an auxilary cooling system, but it also cuts fuel consumption by 40% and even reduces emissions.
