6 RE8 sealed, or 3 ported?

So im getting 3 RE8s from a friend, and am planning on porting them. Then I started thinking about maybe 6 sealed.

Pro for 6 sealed

more cone area

should sound better sealed

more impressive having 6 then 3

Con for 6 sealed

need more rms

more room taken up

more $ on sub

Pro for 3 ported

Should have same output at 1/2 price

less rms

less $

lots of saved space

Con for 3 ported

wont sound as good as sealed

less cone area

less impressive then 6

Anybody have anything to add? Is it worth shelling out the extra $ for 6? Will 3 ported still sound good? I want good SQL for the winter. If they will sound nearly the same with maybe a little loss of SQ from the ported, then I will go that way.

Main question- Will i see a big loss in SQ from going with 3 ported compared to 6 sealed? Or is the difference worth the extra $ and space?

I think id stay 3 ported i dont think ull lose too much SQ but it will be loud........but if u got the money and dont mind the space those 6 re 8s woudl be pretty bad@ss....

how about 4 ported:) cause its much more impressive than 3:D actually, id probably just go with the 3 ported for the fact that you'll save a money will still achieving the output you want

Im not sure Id list 'need more room' as a con for the 6 sealed setup. The 3 ported will require a bigger box than sealed for each driver, usually about double, which would work out to about the same size enclosure. Figure in added volume for the port(s) and I definitely wouldnt just assume the 6-sealed setup would need the bigger box.

I think Id do the sealed system. The main difference in cost is the drivers, but these are relatively cheap drivers (but good ones, no offense heh). The sealed box would be a simpler one, and imo would look better when you fold the seat back to reveal twice as many cones.

For the 3, I would probably go with a PG Xenon series amp 500.1 (400rms at any ohm load). For 6, it would be a BX1500D.

What kind of output can I be looking at for 3 ported/6 sealed? The only thing I really have to compare to would be 2 12'' Comp VRs in 2.0cu ft ported boxes @35 or them sealed in 1cuft boxes.

A few questions
How much are these drivers

How much power at what ohm would you need to power 3

Would 3 8s be better than 2 12s?
1) I think they are 65 a piece. But do not quote me on that.

2) 3 could go down to 2 ohms. i would use about 500 rms to 800rms ( but of course this is totally box dependent.

3)NO But, that is just my opinion.

So then it should be 1.3 lol.

What kind of output can i realistically expect out of 6 8''s sealed? Maybe a 4cf box

Such as... greater then/less than

2x 12'' comp vr ported @35 700rms

1x 12'' p3 2cf ported @35 200rms

2x HE2 1cf sealed each @ 400rms

Now OBVIOUSLY there's a lot to do with the install, but i'm just looking for an estimate, because I really dont know what to expect.
