500W amp enough to power a 4 ohm 500W RMS sub?

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna look around more at amps, but I think I've pretty much decided on the sub. It might cost more, but I don't wanna wing it when it comes to the sub and the enclosure, and I really don't think i'm gonna find a better package for $350

Not a problem ..i have several old school power houses that will bang that sub pretty hard @ 2ohms, that are pretty clean,/cheater amps for down to $140 shipped that will do rated/and more if you have an interest..pm me if interested zed made:santa:

You can get way better than that JL. Spend $70 more and you can get two skar vvx 12s + custom box built to your specs that would completely shit all over that jl sub, hell even 1 of them would destory that JL. And just cause the enclosure is built for your sub doesn't mean it's going to perform well in your car. All cars have different acoustics, so what sounds good in 1 vehicle may not sound good in the next.

You have a huge budget, and many options, but why do you wanna stick with that jl? Just cause it comes in a box already?

The sub is a SVC 4 ohm. He can't wire it to 2 ohms...unless you are talking about a sub you listed.

Any suggestions? I was told I should get a 2 channel amp instead of a mono for that setup. Not trying to put a shitload of juice into it, i just want it to run around the optimum 300W

I think, you're over-analyzing this situation. Let's assume your subwoofer can handle 1000watts. Ok, but do you really have to take it there? This depends on the application. 90% of time I would not hesitate to power 600watt RMS subwoofer with 300watt amplifier. If you want to run more power, I think a mono block amplifier is still slightly a better choice, but probably more expensive. By this I mean, you could always find a mono amplifier with the output rating of 500-600watts at 4ohms. Sure, it could provide more power with 2ohm load, but look on the bright thing of running a mono block amplifier at 4ohms. It will consume less current and generate less heat (neither of these is a huge problem with a Class D amplifier in a car with half decent wiring, but still..). Bridging 2 channel amplifier will make the channels see 2ohm load. Also mono blocks are more common these days.

i think i know that..recommendations of listed,have several 4ohm amps as well....clarrified

Oh well you quoted a post where he said he was gonna stick with the JL and then you said you know an amp that would bang it hard at 2 ohms. Makes it seem like you are saying you know an amp that would bang the jl hard at 2 ohms.

You can do better OP. Listen to these guys. They may argue over whose choice is better... but be assured that more often than not, all of their choices will be better than someone with little experience in the matter.

Too late..already ordered it. people kept trying to show me the most powerful sub and amp i could get with the money...but that was never what i wanted. I'm not trying to go deaf or have a system that breaks my windshield or requires my car to be rewired. just wanted a decent sub that fit well in my car and enough power to make the sub perform well, I care more about accurate bass and good music. I'm happy with it and that's all that matters...I don't understand why everyone hates on JL, there's a reason why they can charge more and there's a reason why almost every car audio shop in the country has a huge JL sticker on their front window

As long as you are happy with your choice, i feel good about that ..we were only giving you better choices/as well as performance/sq other than your choice for your budget, and felt to give you from our experiences as well.. im sure you will enjoy what you have chosen..and certain to hear back from you in a bit,as car audio becomes a true addiction.. for more..lol..let us know how the set up sounds once installed..always curious to know:naughty: enjoy, and lets us know

if you are referring to my post in that statement, FYI, I was referencing to a pro SQ set-up with plenty of headroom....and yes, JL is akin to the Wal-Mart of car audio...you can find them everywhere. You will either be completely satisfied with your choices...or not. audiobaun said it best....good luck!
