I've seen so many ppl with 5.25 in comp and also on this board (in signature) ...

I start to wonder if that's best to get 5.25 instead of the 6.5 in. ...

can someone help me out understand why ppl chose 5.25 over 6.5????

ps: I listen to rock, pop, jazz ... (No more rap, house...)

Thanks much!!!!!

It is mostly due to space limitations, 6.5s will obviously put out more midranges, but will take up more room. Many times in kickpanels a 6.5 would take up too much room so the 5.25 fits beter. Then there are cars where the factory locations are only 5.25, But if you are asking about sound quality you won't tell much of a difference but 6.5s get a bit lower(depending on speaker) and will give ideally a tiny bit more output, but again its all theoretical, so get whatever fits the best in your car.

Thanks buddy.

This is for my 2000 Golf. I hear they where 6.75 in speakers... Guess that 6.5 will do the trick then!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

agree, 6.5 will sound nice...
so since we got that settled, what brand are you going with?

Well...

Honestly, I've ordered some Cadence Audio (to see how they do... Since my mind is not made yet. Paid 69$ for nice Cadence components (Street price above 250$)

So in the mean time, I'll continue exploring my possibilities... Here they are:

At one point, I wanted either JLs (XR CSI Series) or MB Quart (PCE Series...) but, after alot of reading and listening, it seems there are better sounding speaker out there for the buck...

So... I'm down with basically two choice...

Either CDT or Focal. Then again, I'm not sure about which line of CDT to go with. I've seen the HD-62EF going for like 200$ which would be real nice imo. As for Focal, even if some said the Access line is cool, for the difference of $ i'd go for the PlyGlass V series (165V2) for about 210$. I just can't justify the PolyKevlar series for 100$ more for my application.

They're going to be powered by me already installed PPI PCX-480

I've also looked at the PPI components, since they are 3 OHms which would make a big difference, since the PCX will push arounf 130 WRMS / channel @ 3 OHMs ... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

That is where my mind is at the vemry moment....

I just installed a set of CDT-ef61's in my truck and they sound great to me, even without an amp which I'm installing today. I can't wait to here them amped, I've heard it makes a big differance. Anyway I got my set off of djdilliodon here on the board for $175 shipped. He carries CDT's and can probably beat $200 for the HD-62EF. I have never heard the HD-62EF but any CDT comp is great for the price. You can PM him here on the board or e-mail him @ islandsound1@yahoo.com. Good luck.

If you havent the room by all means buy 5.25s

but if you have room for the 6.5s,there is no reason to even consider a 5.25

apple to apples 6.5s will sound better than 5.25s -

Recently i went from Aura 5.25s to aura 6.5s and the difference was enough....

the bigger speakers had more midbass, drums sounded better and overall have a bigger sound

totally depends on space how well you can install and crossover points. a 6.5 will have more of a beaming effect than a 5.25 if crossed over higher between the tweeter and itself.

im not proud of my 5.25 components. They are bright *** hell and have hardly any midbass. If 6.5s were an easy fit for my car I would have gotten them. But!

1)Manual door handle is in the way

2) Not enough depth, window when rolled down gets in the way

3)Door is too shallow and I would have to cut a hole through it

4) I dont know how to make kick panels

and your supposed to mold this onto the door? I was actually looking a the specs of my current driver Kicker RS5C, it has mounting depth of 2 7/16''. So if I find some 6.5s with the same mounting depth or less would they work?
