what is the best port/sub configuration for this vehice or other similar suv's? i have heard that subs up port back works well in suvs. wondering your opinion. also my brother wants to know best config for the bass to travel (outside of vehicle)

Subs up/ port back for your truck..As for your brother just tell him to get loud inside the car. The rest is up to him in how he wants to roll around town. Windows all down, doors/trunk open etc...

ive done several builds in my 00 4runner. Best results are subs up port back. Im doing a build in the next week or two i will post pics for ya to check out.
