I have 600 watts amp that is stable at 4ohm but was wondering if I could hook up a 2ohm sub to it and just set the gains to to a max of 600 watts. Would that hurt the amp at all???

I just firgured if the same amount of power and current was ran out of the amp it would be OK. Any comments?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

The same amount of current won't be running out of it. For a given power level current output will be roughly double, it is likely that the amp will not care for this. It could last a while -- maybe, maybe not. But you are risking the amp with a load that low.

Most descent amps will run at 2 ohms bridged, especially if you set your gains. Its a toss up though how long it will last. Box and impedance rise are going to play key roles in determining that. Once putting your subs in a box, if you measure out the DCR (with a DMM) to be around 3.2 ohms or more, the amp will more than likely see 4 ohms nominal. Not to mention it will be much higher once you play music...
