450W SQ Amplifier

I have seen peeps on here salivating over that JBL/Crown 6000w amp that is over 4 grand, but McIntosh can reproduce sound with more smoothness and clarity than JBL would ever dream of.

Ive seen to many people using jbl crown amps winning sq competitions in major events. Its all about the install more than anything.

That's funny, considering the guy who started the $10,000 amp challenge had a world championship and undefeated sound quality competition car
You already know my opinion of Mr. Clark and his "test" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

heh, gonna reccomend a 450W signel ended triode amp with a series regulated push-pull voltage amplification?
Maybe for the components //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

This entire thread is a little silly...some people can hear the difference between A/B and "switching" topologies for subwoofers, but the difference is small at best. Brad's statement is a good one...SQ is a hell of a lot more dependent on the speaker/enclosure system than the amplifier (assuming an unclipped signal) under 100Hz. Above that, things change slightly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So, after all that BS, what's the moral of the story; Pick an amp based on price, build quality, aesthetics, warranty, features, efficiency and power rather than sonic differences. Any quality amp will suffice.
That's all I was saying.

I think I should start being a little more specific, so fricking jerk offs don't try and start and argument over nothing...

Actually, I don't believe we've ever went in depth on the topic.

some people [claim to] hear the difference between A/B and "switching" topologies for subwoofers,

I've read that before.......and frankly, it doesn't really help here....LOL

Like I said; there are defined variables that we know will cause two amps to sound different, and I listed most of what DW did in my original post here. That wasn't what was being debated //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif What was being debated (atleast on my end) was that if all those variables are within inaubible limits, like they will be for most affordable mid-high level amplifiers as this person was wanting, will they still sound different? IMHO, no, they won't, and anyone has yet to scientifically prove otherwise. But, to each their own.

Well he doesnt want anything TOO exotic... He has money, probably around 700US to spend... Maybe a little more. He has Focal Utopia door speakers as well, and would like to keep the amp brands the same, so he needs an amp for those at the same time.

What he was talking about today where Helix amps... But he is unsure of the price... I say its out of his league.

Word?

Well, http://www.theautophile.com/ used to be the US distributor for Brax/Helix.....but for some reason all I can find on their site at the moment is Gensis equipment. I'd e-mail Peter (owner of Autophile) about Helix prices and see what he says.

Also look into Tru Technology (http://www.trutechnology.com), Zapco (http://www.zapco.com), Zed Audio (http://www.zedaudio.com), and DLS (http://www.dls.se/english/index.htm) for high quality amplifiers. I'd likewise recommend products like the new Rockford Fosgate Power series, JL Audio, Phoenix Gold Xenon series and Arc Audio for high quality amplifiers. However, the later group doesn't have quite the "mystique" that the aforementioned amplifiers do.
