The ppi 900.5 will put a smile on your face. Inexpensive and a good amount of power.

Face the reality PPI is dead, sound stream is dead.

For being dead a lot of people use them. It is a good low cost alternative. Is it a jl? No it's going to be used on a freaking boat.

If they are in deed the same amp I would have no problem recommending it then. Remember your beloved hertz has a version of this amp.also. hdp5 I believe. I have an nvx version of the amp I picked up on the cheap.over 2.years ago and have enjoyed it quite a bit.

The difference Hertz is not owned by PA and they do not grossly overrated stuff. Hertz shares tech and build houses with Audison.

And the 900.5/900.4 are grossly overated? Don't think so. Regardlessly I still recommend the amp.

You're arguing with someone who won't change his mind about Epsilon products. The Precision Power Phantom track record is meaningless to him.

Yeah he won't changet his mind about anything probably. Lol. I am just stating my experience. I currently own an nvx 900.5, ppi 900.4 and a ppi 600.2.

The PA and SS track record means more. Look at the new line up. 3500 rms doing 2k. That's PA influence.

Welp, in terms of impedance, I can wire the sub to present a 2ohm load by wiring the coils in parallel, or I can present a 8ohm load by wiring in series, right? They are dual 4ohm coils. Same with my mains (Polk MM651UM's x4). I have them wired in parallel 2ohm load for each channel. Channel A runs two MM651UM's (right) and Channel B runs two MM651UM's (left). I bridged channels C and D for the sub (2ohm). The system ran GREAT for two years; loud, tight, sounded fantastic... but I'm pretty sure the amp failed due to heat. It ran pretty hot, and was in a locker (Closet) below decks.

My feeling is if I had five channels, it would run cooler. On the other hand, I'm running a 1ohm load on a Polk monoblock in my truck and it runs cool and absolutely kicks *** with 2x1040DVC in a sealed Thunderform enclosure.

"Boutique" feels like another word for "never heard of it ...for a reason", though that PPI amp sounds like it would do everything I need for $200, which would be awesome. Makes me think of the old days with amps like "Targa" and "Urban Audio". I was planning around the $300 mark. $200 made my wife smile (trust me, audio stuff is easily the cheapest set of systems on the boat).

Thank you all for a ton of good advice (and offers of equipment). I've PM'd some, though the Polk MOMO amp is a single channel. Keep the idea and pointers coming!! I hope to pull the trigger tomorrow or just after Xmas.
