4 guage enought?

hey im gonna be gettin a new systen with a phoenix gold 600.1 i heard these are underrated so maybe around 700 watts and im wondering if a 4 guage wire is big enough, and if not how would i connect it to my amp when it only holds up to a 4 guage wire? thanks

4 guage is fine. A lot of people like the engine bling of 1/0 wire, but for an average system it is complete overkill. I have a chart that shows how many amps of current a 4 guage wire can take over so much distance, but I am too tired to look for it now.

4 Gauge will work but 1/0 is better.
1/0 is overkill for his setup. He will be just fine with using 4ga, but if you do want to run 1/0 you can purchase a reducer adaptor for 1/0 to 4ga. Unless you are planning on running like 4 of those amps you do not need 1/0.

Not if he plans on upgrading later. 1/O may be overkill but its better than running too small of a wire. With the rising prices of everything these days its better to buy your power run once with 1/O than to buy 4 ga and down the road have to upgrade to 1/O because you didn't consider future upgrades.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

yeah exactly... so if he isn't planning on upgrading then there is no point. He could run two of those amps off of one 4ga run just fine. 4ga would be fine to run in an expedition, it isnt that long for the wire...

Also, he could just add a second run of 4ga if he did upgrade.

im not going to upgrade because thats what im in the process of doing right now im still making a box waiting to buy my amp and another sub so i will stick with this setup for a looooooooooong time.

We all said that at one time. I said that once back in 92 and 13 years later I'm still upgrading something every year.
