4 channel HU, but only 2 speakers?

I will soon be installing a new head unit and front speakers in my company truck. I have a Pioneer deh-p2900mp and Boston SL80's for the front doors. Here's my question. If my HU is rated at 22 RMS X 4 @ 4 ohms, can I attach both left channels to one speaker and get 44 RMS or does it just not work that way. Would this damage the HU or speaker? Thanks!

No - doesn't work like that.

I'm not sure if it would fail immediately, but the HU would be severely stressed.

It's an amp then. Looking at an Alpine MRP-F250. Channels 1 and 2 to the front speakers, then bridging 3 and 4 to a bazooka bass tube. All this in a Ford Ranger!

you'll be presenting each channel with a 2 ohm load, theoretically drawing twice the current (double the wattage) per channel (88wrms)

Most likely your HU's internal amp would die very quickly.
