4 Channel For Subs??

I was wondering if it would be ok to let my HiFonics Z6400 Power my MTX8000 12" (2). I had bought the MTX8100 but it takes 1/0 guage wire and pulls alot of current. The subs are 4 ohms so could i bridge the channels to make two channels and that would be 340 watts X 2. RMS on the subs is 400 Will that sound ok? I just determined that the MTX8100 would be really hard on my car untill i get a new car with a bigger alt. Will my settup be ok with the 4 chan?

If ur asking if it will work, yes...but thats 60 watts shy of rms for each of those subs...wouldn't recommend going much over the rms newayz. BUT i would power them to their full ability, u'll be more satsfied. Try checking out a USX800D(US Acoustics), they make great amps w/ a 3yr warranty. http://www.usacoustics.com the specs show the otuput @12.9 volts so they are underrated. PLUS it is a monoblock Digital class D amp, so it will be more efficient and perform better for those subs. I've owned one of their amps b4 and they work great. Check it out, if not then go with what ya got...it will work.

Hey thanks for your help. I think i will just go on ahead and run them 60 below RMS just because this is a temporary settup, its my first system and my dad will buy me a new car for graduation, so i will save my MTX8100 for my new car and put some great woofers on it. do you think i should go sealed or ported? being shy 60 watts from RMS?

well, being a lil shy of RMS isn't going to hurt that much. But ported is the type box where not as much power is needed. are u looking for SPL or SQ or a little of both? A ported box tuned low can sound real good and be hell of a lot louder. SO, if ur strictly SQ then go sealed...but if u want good mix w/ more SPL then go ported tuned to like 30hz. plus this will help the subs perform better with the lil less power. peace

prefab? it is MUCH better to build a box urself than to buy prefab...plus it cost A LOT less. U will get better sound, save money, plus it isn't that hard. I just built my first ported box and it took a total of maybe 2-3 hours to put together (after cuts were made at Lowe's) SO, i recommend trying one out 4 urself...u can get any answers to any questions or help from this site. if u decide ported is too hard u can always go sealed for ur first box...piece of cake. but, i wouldn't recommend 40hz...wouldn't sound as good. about 30hz ported would be great. peace

yes u can do that, being 60 watts under the rating is not gonna hurt much, and ull barely be able to notice a difference, but having that extra 60 watts is nice i guess. anyways, like stated before, u need to get those subs to 4 ohms to achieve optimal performance with this setup. if im not mistaking, mtx 8000's are dvc subs, if this is the case, ur gonna need 2 2ohm dvc subs so u can wire each in a series for 4 ohms each, then run each to a bridged channel of the amp.

Man i got all my stuff installed and it sounds really nice! I couldnt imagine having more power to those subs. I am really pleased thanks for all your help.
