When you say "3-ways", are you referring to components or co-axials? I'm presuming co-axials, because you then said "or...components".
Because, it is rather idiotic to spend $500 on an amp to power a couple pairs of co-axials. You would be MUCH better off increasing your budget for speakers and decreasing your amplifier budget. The speaker selection is going to make the biggest difference of anything....several orders of magnitude more difference than the amplifier will (aside from power output differences).
