4 ch amp question

does a 4 channel amp require 4 preouts to function properly? i plugged in a 4 channel amp using the same wires from my 2 channel amp(HU only has 2 preouts), and the amp refuses to power the speakers. ive tryed the 4 channel in 2 channel mode, ive reversed positive and negatives, im tryed multiple speakers.

any suggestions?

EDIT: the HU was set to subwoofer for the preouts, i had to disable it now everything works fine.

No a 4 channel amp does not require 2 Sets of preouts.

You do have to watch to make sure that the One set you do plug in correspods to the 2 channels that are powering your speaker.

As you can tell the RCA terminals are labeld Left and Right, My amp has those numberd. You just want to make sure whatever set you plug yours into you make sure you hook the speakers up to the correctly marked speaker terminals.

EX. If you plut your RCA's into Ch. 1/2 You will want to hook your speakers up the the Ch. 1/2 on the Speaker output terminals.

yes i have 1 set. i know i have the amp hooked up correctly, im beginning to think maybe my preouts r dead on my HU.

Use a DMM to measure the preouts on the HU. Tell us what you come up with.

well it appears that we dont own a dmm =/ i was going to buy a new HU possibly tommorrow i HOPE its not the amp that i just bought that is now being gay >=(
