4 AA Assassin 8"s or 2 AA Assassin 12"s?

The two 12"s would be set up like this:

I'd keep my same amp, saving a little money

They'd be ported properly (whatever you guys recommend, doubt space will be an issue)

Overall, I could sell my current two 8"s and it'd cost me less than $100 + cost of box.

The four 8"s would be set up like this:

I'd sell my old amp and subs (probably for around $300)

I'd buy 4 new 8"s ($200)

Buy a Hifonics BXi 1606D amp (giving them around 300-350w a piece, don't know how underrated that amp is at 1-ohm)

Buy a new 2 gauge wiring kit

Would I need to buy a new alt/battery/anything with 1600w?

And of course, properly ported. Overall, this would cost me around $400 + cost of box, though it'd be louder (24" total vs 32" total...)

Main thing is, how much lower would the two 12"s be able to play? How much louder would the four 8"s be? And is the four 8"s worth the extra time and money?

All this will be going into an '05 (maybe '04, not sure) Pontiac Vibe. I won't be getting this car until possibly the start of next year (sometime in January), but I want to start figuring out what I'm going to do and saving up some cash, because I'm planning to spend about $500 on my mids, mid amp, and HU as well, and I can't just pull $1000 out of my *** when the time comes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

4 subs under the seats... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

that would be cool, not sure how much clearance u have under there tho

They'd be in the back (it's basically a Toyota Matrix, only Pontiac).

i'd go for the 12's personally. you should have plenty of space if you put them in the hatch, and that amp should be plenty of power.
The AA move way easier than my Type R's....

at 500 or so watts a piece, they barely mooing... and the gains is set to 3/4 of the way!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

YES... mooing... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

That's what I'm leaning towards, but the 4 8"s would be so **** cool //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I know you can't really determine maximum output or anything, but on estimate, how much louder would the 4 8"s be, if at all? I know you've used the 12"s ported before, didn't they flex your windshield? o_O

And I'm not trying to be OMG ANNOY EVERYONE loud, it's just that these 2 8"s sealed aren't really enough for me. I'll probably end up with the 12"s anyway, get a better HU that way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Alright thanks guys. I'm gonna go ahead and plan my system out with the 12"s in mind //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Nope. You need to compare total cone area, not add up the diameters. The 8's would give you right at 200.1 sq inches and the 12's 226 sq inches.

Main thing is, how much lower would the two 12"s be able to play? How much louder would the four 8"s be? And is the four 8"s worth the extra time and money?
I imagine they would be very similar in output seeing as the cone area is close to the same and the power is similar. 8's for wow factor, 12's to save money.

One final question...

Dual 12" Ported Box

Is that good (I don't know how all the tuning and stuff works for ported boxes, but if I get some plans, I can build it easy).

EDIT:

Thanks GrnEydDvl, I didn't know you were supposed to add up the area. Now there's no question in my mind, going with the 12"s.

i calculated out the specs on that box, and i think AA messed. i e-mailed chad about it, but never heard back. i think the port is missing a piece, because it's tuned way too high.

here's my box:

http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp?Ew=32&Eh=14&Dia=6&Xmax=15.5&Vd=.08&NumW=2&Vb=3.5&Fb=32&Qts=&Vas=&Fs=&CE=0

here's the same width/height but deeper to meet AA spec:

http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp?Ew=32&Eh=14&Dia=6&Xmax=16&Vd=.08&NumW=2&Vb=4&Fb=32&Qts=&Vas=&Fs=&CE=0

if you have more width/height to work with let me know and i'll whip up something (using that site) that will fit the vehicle better.

I did this with a regular 12" ruler because that's all I can find right now, but my space should be around:

35" wide

Around 16-17" height at most.

18", maybe 20" at the top, probably around 25" at bottom (the way the seats are it's angled in the back) depth

Tomorrow I'll get an actual tape measure and take some pictures so you can see a little better what I'm working with, and HOPEFULLY it won't have tons of crap piled up back there (which is why my estimates may be off...).

EDIT:

This would probably make it more difficult, but would there be a way to calculate in the back wall angle, or does that not work well with ported boxes?

And one other thing, I'd like these facing upwards.
