4 12"s VS 2 18"s

AQ HDC15 (alum coils) did 146.3 at 46hz and 144.1 at 40hz 140.5 at 33hz also did a 146.4 today legal and 148.4 outlaw at 46hz

RD alpha (copper coils) did 146 at 46hz and 142.5 at 40hz didnt test the alpha at 33hz

its really close, but the AQ hits lower... and since your competing i figure every little bit counts right?

not exactly you just took the area of 2 18" circles and 4 12" circles when the effective piston area is never the size of the driver. 12's are "typically" 480 cm^2 and 18's are "typically" between 1050-1200cm^2
i do think your right about being louder tho, 4 12's would "hopefully" push you into that magic 150db not by much, but should get you to 150-151 territory
Okay? It wasn't meant to be a precise, to the dot, measurement. It was to illustrate the point that there isn't really a significant difference in area to say one will be louder due to cone area than the other. You just showed that perfectly.

1920 cm^ for 12's

2100-2400 for 18's

So in your 'more exact' example, the 18's have a 180-480 cm^2, or 28-74 inches^2 advantage. Sounds pretty similar to what I said.

ok your right my bad

I dont think he ever metered the AQ's though... I know he did 4 type r 12"s and did like a 152 i think
if you were talking about skip he metered both.

Old:

4 12" HDC

8cu@40hz

amp @ .25

154.2@48hz

Temp:

4 12" Type R

6cu@35hz

amp @ .5

153@44hz

No clue what you should take from it but it is what it is.....number vs number....had to post it

I liked em both very much

Mannn...i been said 4 12s over 2 18s

4 12 Rs and 40.1@ .5 did 151 on Lil john - Push that, burped 153.3 outlaw @ 44hz

Vs. ur 2 18s and 3000d @ .5 149 burp

Its a no brainer

And i did meter the HDCs with both amps at .5, 154.2 legal burp

The amount of space you can save with doing 4 12s is nuts....assuming you do 2 6in aeros...slot will be a lil bigger

But still, with my Rs in 1.5cu a piece and tuned at 35hz, still crushed the lows and peaked at 44hz

Yeh, if ya dont care about being over the window, and having no space for anything else in ur bed, go with 18s

But hey....good luck....any tips ya need shoot me a PM

And if ur goin with SB3 do 8 10s //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.......ill show u soon enough //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

4 12" type Rs on a 40.1 @ 0.5ohms, thats why your crazy, thats nuts like 1000-1200w per driver... and tuned to 35hz so im assuming this is a daily driver?

your sayin those type r's did that at 6.1 cubes. whats the lowest in cubes the 12" aq's take four of them i have been planning four 12's in trunk for a long time.I hate to bardge in like this but if you guys know which subs will take alot of power and small amount of space i would appreciate it.i also have a kid trading me his two alpha v2 12's for my single btl is that a deal and will i gain in db's

if your btl is a 12" i'd say its a good deal, and alphas will take 1500 each i believe without issue

Yeh....what about it?
I have 2 12 Rs right now with a 40.1@1ohm.....148ish legal
thats even more insance, jeez how do you get them to live at that kinda power, i know 500 is way underrated, but i've heard around 1000 is the limit for daily pounding
