4 12"s VS 2 18"s

Well I did a 149@44hz off the 2 18"s off approximently 3300-3500 watts. So what do you think 4 12"s could do off about 5000-5200 watts

You should definately consider 4 15"s non-walled. I know it can be done in your explorer from past experience. How much power total and what kind of budget for your subs?

Just curious. Are you competing? Or just want something louder just because?

Just wondering because I see you still have stock everything except subs, which could be pretty overpowering if trying to listen to daily.

Towards your question though. The 18's have a ~56 sqin advantage on the 4 12's. The 12's though will have 2000 more watts you said, and more motor to dissipate the heat. I don't think you could lose much if any. More than likely you'll gain because of the 2000 more watts.

There was a guy on here that has a red explorer and ran 4 HDC's. I can't think of his name though...shi t. He had a vfl 500.1. Brain fart. I'll think of it and be back. That is pretty similar to you though.

Haha yup. I just found him. I remember he was running his 500.1 @ .5 on 4 HDC's, didn't know he upped it to 2 500.1's. ****.

Throw more power at 18"s

You could probably break a 150 with 6K on 2 Mach 5 SPL15"

I vote HDC3 otherwise-

I dont think he ever metered the AQ's though... I know he did 4 type r 12"s and did like a 152 i think

not exactly you just took the area of 2 18" circles and 4 12" circles when the effective piston area is never the size of the driver. 12's are "typically" 480 cm^2 and 18's are "typically" between 1050-1200cm^2

i do think your right about being louder tho, 4 12's would "hopefully" push you into that magic 150db not by much, but should get you to 150-151 territory

well sound quality is opinionated, although ive heard the alphas have besster SQ, as far as SPL tho, there was a test VERY resently done on the boards between the alpha and the hdc3, and the hdc3 was louder on the same wattage.

if you like your alphas stick with them, they say if it aint broke don't fix it. just lettin you know was all.

Ya the goals are a 152 burp and a 150 30 second average on music I wanna be able to bass race in the 49.9 class as well
