4 10's vs. 18. which would be louder???

my question is which would perform better in a 2dr. Civic??? i know the 10's wont get as low as a 18, but will they get low???? i can get 4L7 10's real cheap, but not sure on a 18'. my spending limit is 500 w/o box, so can i get a good 18 for that price?

I sold my 18" XXX for less than 300 a while back.

I'd say so.

Hmmm I 2nd this under the same power and idel box builds for the subs. conditions 4 10's would win based on the cone area theory if they were the same sub....

How are you planning on fitting 4 10's in your civic???

1. How much power do you have?

2. How much Airspace do you have in your trunk?

3. YOu are concerned about them playing low so this is for daily?

- go ported and tune low like 32 or 34 hz

frequency response is a result of enclosure design and subwoofer thiel small specs. Not cone size.

I owuld do the kickers if they are cheap, the subs are pretty beefy.

you could go sealed and give each sub 900- 1k and they would play as low as you have recorded program material.

Or ported if you have the room, very loud, and will play as low as the box tuning allows.

I've heard that it's the cone area that is what makes the low end, although I'm not sure how much I believe that. According to that rule the 4 tens would be louder and lower but if you're only running that te1501 I'd do a single 18.

Personally I have fired subs up and port back in a trunk car with great success. The low end was absolutely ridiculous and it didn't suffer from any lack of transient response from what I could tell. I would definitely do it again and again. I have done 4 trunk cars with subs up port back and every customer just smiles from ear to ear. Simply saying it won't work is not enough around here. Unless you can provide some serious insight as to why that route is not a possible alternative then I don't think it's really fair to give an opinion.

Mon, either way you go, you're going to need more power for the subs than that 1501D. This is especially true since I know what your ultimate goal is for your system. I would tune around 32 Hz for a good daily beater.
