To whomever recommended the Q over the iPhone....you're crazy.

The no flash support is a huge problem, in my opinion. Thankfully, this will be resolved soon. Adobe is working on a solution specifically for the iPhone....

If I had UMTS service up here (especially with HSDPA), I would be buying the new iPhone immediately. Sadly, that's not a reality....

Nope, 3G is UMTS.

Just for fun....let's follow the path of companies like Cingular/at&t or T-Mobile (not the CDMA camp).

1G - AMPS

2G - TDMA w/ CSD

2.5G - GSM w/ GPRS

2.75G - GSM w/ EDGE

3G - UMTS w/ W-CDMA

3.5G - UMTS w/ HSDPA

UMTS technically uses GSM infrastructure (which is why it is the logical path for companies like at&t who have empirically been a GSM company), but it is a newer and more advanced protocol.

What speeds will you get? Depends on where you're located, network traffic, and what up and down links they have in your area. At best (assuming the fastest HSDPA connection possible in your area), you'll see no more than 7.2 Mbit/s (~900 kB/s). This makes browsing a heck of a lot more fun and makes things like live video sharing viable.

well looks like im not getting one after all no coverage for 3g in my area....dam kinda strange tho since att just bought out the biggest cell phone provider in my area last year. Maybe its on its way.

I'm liking the new price, but if what I read was true:

"You can't just by the phone and activated it at home, you have to activate it in store."

That's pretty stupid... Other than that I'm looking into getting one.

name another phone you can purchase under contract and then activate at home...

or why you would even want to if you werent going to use it... and the only people that this is going to affect is the people who are going to unlock it and use it on other networks. its just ATT securing what they paid for, its the same reason the new iphone is cheaper than the itouch...
