bigger is better........plus a little more stroke

offers more torque for that heavy truck, the cost between the 2 motors is neglagable

I would buy an Eagle assembly or similar and build it myself

Get the block bored to match the new pistons, new cam bearing, check the deck etc

freshen up the heads and have em upgraded to screw in studs and SS valves w port match

Cam and lifter kit from your fav cam grinder, all new ARP hearware

and buy the "How to rebuild your small bock chevy" book

Dood, with everything machined you can build it in a weekend in your garage

what yor budget ?Carb or EFI ?

I have done this only about a a dozen times for myself and friends

wow thanks for the info i ll look into that book right now.

350 bored .030 is a 355, .040 is a 357, and .060 is a 360.

I've had 350-406's, including seevral 383. In a heavy vehicle, torque is king. You don't have the high revving like a non-stroker motor, but you make gobs more low end torque.

If you have Vortec heads, I bet 906 castings, you'll need them rebuilt and set up for a decent cam, up to at least .500 lift.

Then a good street cam for a 383 is a comp XE268. Good idle, yet gives a broad range of torque, and you can use stock converter.

A 383 and be sure to use the 5.7 rods, do use the 400 shorter rods, get at least 5.7's.

No need for forged pistons, etc, just use hyper's.

i think this has pretty much mad me decde on a 383 so far. ill give it a few more days tho
Of course we would decide on a 383. We're not the ones paying for it. If i had the choice of a 383 or a 355, I would choose 383 everytime...

The difference is, you are the one that will be paying for this, and whether or not you can afford it should make your decision.

i cant afford it all now, but thats y i still have an engine in the truck so that i can drive it and work on it while still having an engine to build up. so i can take my time and get the funds together for it

do some more research, buy a few hot rod magazines

and come up with a budget.......

U might aughta redo some driveline components too, tranny, conveter(looser)

gears........to do it right many things come into play to do a basic rebuild

and swap is a little more boring but cheaper.......

the good news is a SBC is the least expensive motor to build with something for

every budget 1200 and up...

How fast ya wanna go = how much money u have
