300$ Help picking 2/4 speakers and 2/4 ch amp? Thanks!

What would my best bet be for some better speakers in my mids or highs? Someone once told me to get a 2 ch amp and 2 new highs, and ive also heard to replace all four of my speakers and add a 4 ch amp. What would you guys do, I want to stay around 300 total for speakers and amp. Help please, links?
