$300 components?

i did listen to them powered by an audison vrx.... wasn't that impressed. the tweets were pretty nice i have to say...
Audison's imo tent to color the sound a smidge. To me they definitely have a sonic footprint and add a 'warmth' to the sound, especially in the midrange, so if you arent using that amp you may take that with a grain of salt.

Do you or her like your music to be 'bright and in your face' or more laid back?

well, if you go too bright with tweets listening to hard death and black metal you will go deaf. i like detail but i don't dig cymbals boucing all over the place. my horns do a very nice job. haven't ran a tweet yet that could match my cd2 comp horns.

we like solid kick-drum and low drop-tune guitar riffs....

Imo the rainbow kick series would be a good choice. Or if you got the experience and processing I would say go active with raw drivers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

my girl has a 2005 camry. this car has stock crappy 6X9 mids in the front doors. i'm working with about 3"s depth. i need a component that will crank like hell and produce some good midbass. we both listen to metal. for power, i think the cadence 600.2(150X2 @4ohm 13.8 volt) is a good choice. she's on a $300 budget for the comps. thanx for anyone's input.
I heard Crystal mids in this same exact vehicle and they sound amazing.

hmmm... what comps are you running?
Right now, nothing. I have a rental becaues my car got totaled. But I was running Zapco CK-16.2's in an active setup in my Accord. The Crystals I heard were in my friend's gf's Camry. I can't recall the model but I know they were 250 from what he told me. Finding them may be difficult.

I'd also recommend not getting something that requires a lot power. I used to have Boston Z6's and i gave them 125w a piece and my stock speakers got louder. They are very power hungry (rated at 380 or 400w rms PER mid). If you look into Hybrid Audio, the L6's don't require much power, probably only needs 50-100w. Helps when you buy an amp. Realize this is with an active setup as well. I'd say the key is to find some good speakers that don't require much power, because lower power handling doesn't always mean it won't get loud.

i think were gonna go with the premier prs comps. i hope that fvcker fits in the door. i think the premier drivers are 2.6 inches of depth. i'm working with about 2 1/2". the stock 6 X 9 has 2" of height and 2 1/2" of depth. i figured if i make a baffle of 1/2" mdf . that would give me right around 3" total depth. it's gonna be close that's for sure. all comes to worse my girl want be able roll the window all the way.... just an inch or 2 of glass showing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you listen to metal you will want a silk or soft dome tweeter or else you will kill your ears fast. The CDT Eurosport comps at 300 bucks is an awesome deal, they have the laid back tweeter that wont bust your ears with the kind of music you play. Cadence makes great amps, clean power and they do at least rated power.

i had the es620's... they didn't produce alot of midbass. they sound killer though with classical and acoustic tunes. for heavy metal they ****. they will get loud as hell, and take plenty of power. i had a DLS A3 going to each door. could handle any power you throw at them...
