wellll.... here's the background: bought a used xxx15, had it reconed, 2 months later the dustcap begins to come off so i have i reconed again.... 2 months later (now) i notice something odd....
while messing with my crossover and figit fiddling with my stereo as ussual i decide to to an ohm test on my sub for shits and giggles and loan behold it's reading 1.5 ohms..... but i thought i have a 2 ohm DVC xxx15?? i figure maybe some of the wire i was useing to wire the voice in parallel might have gone bad since they are kind of old....so i take the sub out and do an ohm test on each coil...each one reads 2.9ohms (well it tinkers between 2.9ohms and 3.0ohms but still.)..........?
i thought maybe my meter is broken.....i take the sub to 3 radio shacks, an advanced auto parts, an autozone, and a best buy to have them use thier multimeters on my sub and see what i get
all of them read 3ohms on each coil exept for one radio shack which the meter was busted, and best buy where they read 11 ohms on each coil....though the best buy guys were being total douches and slandering my "off brand" sub and i didnt bother to check and see is thier meter was working correctly by haveing them hook it up to something else.... perhaps they purposely used a bad meter sicne i didnt buy somethign from them...? i dont know.
i thought maybe the sub is blown? but for one i have be VERY VERY conservative with my gains and there's no voice coil rubbage when i press down on the cone...and if they coils were blown isnt it a little bit odd they both read the exact same and and 3 ohms a piece?
but my meter along with 2 radio shack and the 2 car parts place all read me at 3 ohms per coil.....is it possible when RE reconed my sub they accidentally gave me dual 3 ohm VC's instead of 2ohms?? i hooked the sub back up and it still hits fine... the sub it'self works flawlessly but i do loose power haveing it at 1.5ohm and not 1 ohm considering impedience rise and power effiency of the amp.... i really really want a normal XXX dual 2ohm but i'm not about to spend another 120 just in shipping for that... though RE has an authorized dealer now an hour from my college (only RE dealer in FL)....
well it's 2:03am sunday night/monday mourning and i was goign to wait till after i talked to ave or scott at RE before i posted this but i had to get this off my chest before i went to bed.... i'll keep u guys posted on what happens after i call RE...
