ok, here's the deal. I have an old beater car i drive back and forth to work. So far i have added a new head unit (Sony CDX GT700HD) and a set of RF 4" front speakers and 6x9 rear speakers. I would now like to add a little bass. I am not going for extreme SPL or anything, juast want to add a little bass. I think i want to run aprox 600 wats to the subs. the question is ... do i run 3 8's or 2 10's. I would like to go w/ a ported box tuned to somewhere in the mid 30's Hz. Any suggestions? Again i am not looking for any SPL records, just nice deap hard hitting bass.

I posted this question on my FB, and here's a response I got. It may apply to you.

haha with the 8s you will have small consecutive booms lol with the 10s you will have bigger booms just not so quick after one another

So if you want small booms, go with the 8s, if you want bigger booms go with the 10s.

thanks ... this helps.

3 good 8s should out do any entry-mid level 10's. I'd go 8s, smaller box requirements, they sound just like bigger subs and the shock factors are always nice.

Look inot Cadence's new SW28 or whatever its called. Supposed to be a good 8"

So what if he gets two good 10s then?

Here is what i found on the Cadence's website CVL8-500-4 ... are these what you are talking about?

with only 600 watts i say 2 8's or 1 12
Why do you say this? Two 10s is more cone area than both of those, why shouldn't he run two 10s on 600 watts?

Anyway, OP, how much is your budget for your subs? You would be happy with either two 10s or three 8s, the 10s have a little more cone area, but you have the extra motor force from the third subwoofer if you go with the 8s. SQ wise you wouldn't notice a difference.

Like i said this is just a daily driver that i go back and forth to work in (1992 Buick Regal). My other car is geared more towards performance so i don't want to add any un-needed weight to it. I drive an hour plus each way and figured i might as well upgrade the stereo a little in the beater. I am using RF T142 4's in the front and T1692 6x9's in the rear. They are running off the headunit and sound just fine, i just want to add a little bass. I was looking to spend no more then a couple hundred ($300 would be my ultimate max) on the subs, either 2 10's or 3 8's. Honestly 1 10 and 2 8's may be fine. I just want to add some nice clean bass to the car. As for 600 watts, i feel that 200 watts to each 8 or 300 to each 10 would be fine. Like i said i am not looking to break any SPL records. I mainly listen to rock music, with some occasional hip hop/pop music mixed in.

this is completely untrue! I ran 3 sundown SA-8s and it was not a bunch of "little booms" it was a bunch of panel flexxing and sunroof jumping long low nasty tones!

right now I run 2 Dayton HO 10s and once again its not "bigger booms not so quick" the bass itself sounds the same as my 8s. Only difference is I ran double the power to my 8s so of course they were louder.

Dont let anyone tell you u need bigger subs to hold out low notes, its complete //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bsflag.gif.21f42eccd34b7d1eb1608fb1b59b69c3.gif

Whover told you that is an idiot. Point, blank, period!

Do you already have the amp? A pair of these would work great for you

DCON-10 D4

Man for a so called beater/work vehicle..I use a pair of Lanzar Max Pro 10s, and i made 2 square 3/4in MDF boxes for them at 1.6cu ft and made my own 2 1/2inc pvc portat approx 7in deep, and put an old school Mean Machine 99 on it, and It Bangs the Car pretty good!! I like the tens best. Those subs are DVC 4ohm at 600rms, and way under $100 bucks for a pair shipped from e-bay, and sound great!A good old school 4ohm amp-$100 bucks,Boxes built w 3/4MDF-Approx $50,Think I spent a total of like $260 bucks and my time:D, and performs and sound like approx $600 bucks to me, and gets pretty loud! I have a USA US Acoustics 2150 series II that I will be repairing the RCAs on that will be going pretty cheap soon , that will bang the living dog **** out of those subs at a 4ohm load!! For less than $150 bucks shipped:D
