3 18" audioque hdc3

I have 3 18" hdc3s and I was planning on trading one of the subs for a Orion hcca 5000.1 because I have a crappy 4000w SSL amp on all three right now. Would the 3 18's be louder off the SSL or would 2 18's be louder off the Orion 5000.1

So the difference is 4000 watts vs 5000 watts? 3 on 4000 is most definetly going to be louder. If your going to cut your cone area by 1/3 your going to want to at least add 50% more power so 6k at least to keep output levels similar. However, I don't think I'd trust the subs to be on 3k a piece, at least not in terms of linear gains vs power compression, so it's likely NO amount of power will make up the difference, at least without pushing them right up past the breaking point. I'd keep 3 for now and just save up for a better amp when you can.

The SSL SAYS it does 1600RMS at 1 ohm..

The HCCA5000D says it does 2500RMS.

3 dual 2ohm subs would be 1.34 ohm load

3 dual 1ohms would be .67 or 1.5 ohms depending on wiring.

Are the subs dual 1 or dual 2 ohm?

either way you look at it. the 2 18s on the orion 5000.1 as long as the box is decent will be louder then the 3 on the SSL. The SSL will only actually put out probly 1100rms at the most, ive seen them clamped and the number were between 900 rms to 1075rms @ 1ohm.

in that case id do2 of the hdc3 18s on the 5000.1 @ 1 ohm. do you have a chance at any other amps?

At this time no. Might just keep all three and wait for a bigger amp. Thanks for your input. Appreciate it
