I am getting ready to put a system into my car. I have a amp that will put out 1200 watts at 1 ohm and i have about 4 cubes to work with. These are the confgerations that work best for me. I listen to rock/metal mostly and the remainder of the system will be sq more than spl. What are the pros and cons... What would you recomend?

Thanks

Id go with the 10"s. Generally theyll be the most responsive to keep up with the fast paced bass in that type of music. Sealed, theyll fit fine in the space you said you have, id go a little smaller though. Maybe 3 cubes for all of them, depending on what driver.

If you are looking for opinions I will share mine......although I am new to this also, lol.

I would probably do 3 10's in a sealed box. It will keep the box size down, and 10's would be nice and tight for rock/metal music.

Also it might factor in what amp your going to use....what ohm configuration you need etc etc

If I went with 10's I was thinking 3 RE SE10d2's. Sealed was my thought too... What size box would you guys recomend, and what do you think of these drivers? Thanks

That is what i have but my se's are D1.5s wired to 1ohm in 2 cubes sealed. And i love them they get loud and sound good doing it.

Honestly if youre going sealed/low power the drivers wont make much difference IMO. I had a set of these and they would take over 1k with only 2 of them, i beat on them for about 6 months and then sold them, still working fine.

Yea i know, "Theyre Pyramid though?" Theyre actually very well built subs, i have 4 going in my daily driver (the 15" ones) Actually underrated as far as power. You could get three for around 120$ shipped, cant beat it.

I had one more thought, two of the se10d4's would take up less space and still handle my amps power... This would save space and money. How would the output compare to the three sub option. It would be slightly more total power consumed due to running at 1 ohm rather than 1.33, meaning each sub gets it's rated 600 rather than each sub getting like 350... But it is a third less surface area moving... Thanks for the opinions

cone area beats power almost 100% of the time assuming you have airspace for both. If you double the amount of subs you have and simply split power again, you still gain 3db's theoretically assuming you scaled your airspace up too. Plus as you add power the coils get hot and compression kicks in. How much money do you want to spend. IMO, I'd go with a lesser number of subs so you can get a higher quality sub. How much is your budget, that will help alot.

Anyway, I'd reccomend checking out http://www.diycable.com There subs come in 12 and 15's and are about the best overall value in subs if you SQ oriented in the slightest. They use XBL^2 and faraday rings so they keep both BL and inductance even over their stroke. Very high sq and 26mm of xmax to boot! They are a great sub for getting loud and still sounding spectacular, probably among the best. Very well engineered. They are basically a more upgraded modern version of a Adire Brahma.
