3 10" SQ Subs???

So I have had my 15" Mag in for about a couple of weeks and love it to death.

It's sealed in 2.5, and hits amazing!!! Nothing wrong with this sub, but I think I

would like to go 3 10" or 2 12" SEALED to run off my SAZ-1500D. Any suggestions

to which I should choose and what brand? The 15" just weighs too much and

makes my suspension qwerk sometimes. I think something in the 400-500 watt

RMS range would be nice for the amp (???).

Another option would be to get something in the 2000 watt range to run to 3 10"

or 2 12", but I really like this Sundown!

Once more: SEALED, Loud and SQ...

.........

keep the 15 then if ure happy with it...the only reason to go with 3 10'' is cuz theyre 'faster' then a 15''....why not try ported?
i think his main concern is the weight in his car.

IDq 10's are only like 10 pounds each, and .7 cubes for per IIRC, that 2.5 cube could be a heckuvalot smaller if you completely stuff with polyfill

Thanks for the replys guys. Keep the info. coming. Are 10" faster?? That would

be great but the 15" keeps up pretty well and accurate for D&B and break beat.

I don't go ported mainly because of the response lag and sloppyness compared

to a sealed box. I have had probably 15-20 ported boxes back in the day and

loved them when I listened to hip-hop all the time.

no 10's are not faster. just smaller.

true cone size does not dictate drivers speed, but 10'' to me always sounded faster'' and better to rock metal...in terms of hip hop, r'n'b and that types of music its completly irrelevant...and when i said that the only reason to go with three 10'' is cuz they would be 'faster' i was refering to this specific case.....

10'' dont quite suite me, but i know a lot of ppl who dont ever wanna go back to a 12'' let alone a 15'' anymore...to each his own i guess

First of all 10's are not faster than 15's

Second of all, ported boxes are not sloppier than sealed, in fact, they are inherently better at making low end bass with less distortion (so what’s you're definition of "SQ"? Is it distortion or is it linear frequency response or is it what other people say? If it’s the first two, in most cases, well designed ported boxes are what you want but this heavily depends on the box , driver and alignment you marry the two with because you can miss the target and wind up with what a lot of others wind up with: that is a high Q peaky box that sounds like the rear part of a donkey.

More on all that bs can be found here and there.

If you're dead serious about a better sounding system, you're going to have to measure the frequency response of what you have first. Because professional car stereo shops are still oblivious to this concept, you may want to seek some help on a DIY forum, I would even consider some of the home audio forums, they are adamant on having linear and low distortion bass.

I will also add that often times its not the "subwoofer" that is lacking in a system, if you're midbass speakers are not up to the task you can end up with non linear response in the midbass. The better sounding car systems tend to have more of the bass up front. If there is an obvious transition between the midbass and sub then its going to sound less ideal.

WOW! I never thought of that before in that context Kyle. I obviously don't claim to be an expert or anything, but my reference to response is that I listen to a lot of electronic music and most ported boxes I have owned are almost always late on the bass reponse. In most cases it's somewhere in the tenths if not hundredths of seconds late, but still noticeable to me. Does a trunk have anything to do with the sound of the sub and it's timing of reaching one's ear?

Since we're on this topic and I seem to have some intelligent people chimming in, maybe someone could suggest to me something that meets my wants/needs ported? On the mark response at all frequencies (well let's say extremely good from 30hz to 65hz or so). Hell, you all may convince me to go back to a port.
