29hz to 32hz

I don't think my music dips down to under 30hz so whats the point of tuning that low?
I prefer the lower tuning for a flatter overall response without a noticeable peak. Even though you may not have much information that low, having the box tuned lower will normally keep a smoother response that doesn't have an obvious peak in it like higher tuned boxes would. And even when you are tuned at 29hz, you're box will peak higher than that by about 5hz, depending on the application.

A good tool to use is winISD so you can check out the response curves of different box designs and see how tuning and box size changes the peak, location of the peak, and the drop-off below tuning.

I'm with you on that one. I've been tuned pretty low before and didn't like the lack of output above 45hz. I say go for it and cut the port down and see how you like it. The absolute worst thing that could happen is you have to buy another coupler and more aero tube.

 
In my truck, with a box for a pair of MJ-18's that was tuned to 32hz, I was still 6db up at 55hz than at 35hz. This was with the box designed to be flat from 30-60hz outside of vehicle. If anything I need very big low tuned boxes to give me a bump in the 30-40hz region. I don't get people who tune in the upper 30's and around 40hz...I guess it's cool if you're showing off certain songs but it can't be nice to listen to on a daily basis.

This also depends on the subs themselves, if they even are supposed to work well in a low tuned box. Also depends a lot on the box size itself, as well as port opening size. What sub did you use and what were the box specs?

My AQ HDC 18's sound better, even in the low range ( subsonic set @ 25), tuned @ 40, than they do @ 32. I dont know if its the design of the sub or what, but they just sound better tuned higher, Ive tried as low as 30hz tuning and you just lose alot of overall output when tuned low and lose the MONSTER kickdrum punches in the 45-50hz range that makes the AQ's so fun

Then why not do a sealed box, because,

Isn't the point of a ported box to have a boost in a certain range of frequencies? Because if you're getting a flat response, the boost would be gone.
