2250 watts to a JBL GTi

You're not actually sending that amount of power to the sub when playing music anyway.
Doesnt matter, those woofers cant handle anywhere near 2200, let alone 1500 daily..

Like mentioned, we were easily able to get the coils to smell alot off the 2200.1 split up between both subs.. To one, ide wager I could blow it up easy with a clean signal.

And I promise you that I could run a 10kw amp to a single one daily, forever. It's all about crest factor, gain setting a volume control.

The convo was never about burping.. He didnt mention anything about wanting to only burp them.. Fact is, for daily usage, they cant handle anywhere near 2kw. If he were going for spl, these are the wrong subs anyways.

hi there.

regarding your question on whether the GTis can take the beating,

this was my 2 10" GTis off a RF T4kw.

they didnt last very long.

i had a bunch of them ( got them at lke $80USD each brand new) from a dealer who really wanted to clear his stock.

blew a few, sold off the rest.

they sounded pretty good though..

running at 1.5 ohms. ( each sub was dual 6 ohms)

I agree having extra headroom is never a bad thing.. but 2kw+ is probably more power then you will need..

It's unique design prevents it from mechanical damage no matter how much power you throw at it.. but I would probably have the coils smoking within an hour.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Would this make a really nice free-air sub or IB sub? I've seen a few of them and wanted to play with one, but only have seen them retail and wouldnt pay the price tag. If i see one up here, maybe i'd pick it up if the design is that nice.. I wouldn't mind something i couldnt bottom out.

Hooking a 2200 watt amp to a sub, and then not turning the volume up, is not running 2200 watts to the sub. So yes, you could hook a 10,000 watt amp to it, or a 100,000 watt amp, but the question (I thought) was whether or not the sub would handle the wattage, not simply the amp hooked to it and then its output set artificially low.

I've never ran the T/S in a box program, or heard one done IB.. but at first glance they look like they would preform well..

That was the question, and I told him, it wont last at all. He can try though at his own risk..
