2021 Jetta Upgraded Speaker Question

Hello everyone,

Wanted to ask a couple questions regarding my cars system.

I have 4 RockFordFosgate coaxial speakers installed, with an amp for mids and highs. Also amp/sub setup but that is not relevant to the question.

All of this is installed with the stock head unit, with a LC2i, no issues at all.
However I’m noticing whenever I am really turning up the volume in the system, at near max volume in some songs the mids/highs will start to distort.

What could this be credited to? Weak speakers? I am in the range of RMS and peak power with the amp for these speakers.
Could it also be the stock headunit just isn’t cutting it for these speakers? Or possible faulty wiring job on my end when installing the speakers?

I also mentioned earlier that I’m running 4 coaxial speakers in this car.
Would it be better for sound quality in my music if I ended up swapping two of the coaxial speakers to component?

Let me know - thanks in advance!

My first question is how are you getting audio to the crossover, are you using a speaker level to line level converter? If so, it sounds like the radio output is clipping. No such thing as weak speakers. Usually mismatched loads, not enough power, or something in the system clipping by swamping the input of an amp, crossover, or processor.

As for your question about component speakers, I prefer components. My personal systems have always been two amplifiers, usually a Debezt (Fort Myers FL) 700RMS Mono @ 2ohms driving two Peavey Black Widows, and a Debezt 4 channel at 100Rms/ch driving passive 12db/octave rolloff 3 way crossovers feeding mid bass 6X9 rear woofers and 6" woofers front doors, mids front & rear Boss 5" sealed back, 2" Neodium tweeters front & rear. I found that Pyramid CR32 3 way passive crossovers 12db/octave rolloff, work great, handle 250 watts RMS and are really inexpensive, with crossover freq at woofer (mid bass) to 700hz, mids 500 to 3.5khz, tweeters 4.5khz to 20khz!
Good luck,
