2011 Honda Accord voltage questions

Hey now everybody.

I was wondering if anyone know if its normal for these accords to drop below 13v at idle in gear. At idle in park it's full 14.**

I was swapping at my radio this week and had my amps turned off for the first time since I have had the car. My voltage meter was still hooked so that's why I noticed this..

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

Its the EDL (electronic load detector) if there in not much of a load its stays around 12.5 or so. You can turn on headlights that usually work for me. Keeps voltage at 14.4 with them on.

Oh so that is normal? If I get a higher amp alt will that help with that problem or will it stay the same?

Thanks

ELD is also sometimes called BCM (battery control module). Unless you disable it you will have the voltage drop. It is basically disabling the Alt under light loads to save gas. I do not know how to properly disable it in a 2011. If you add a *second* alt then it will work fine because it will not be wired into the ELD/BCM control. Same thing if you simply upgrade the Alt (I think)

I have the same problem with my car, is there anything for a 5th gen 2013+ Nissan Altima?
I haven't heard about Nissan using an ELD system but it's purpose is fuel economy, so anyone could employ it as long as a patent prevented it.

A study of the electrical wiring diagrams would reveal it.

K_H_A - Thanks for this link. I can't remember where I read it, but I believe on the newer Honda's the ELD not longer sends an analog sensing voltage to the PCM, instead it is a digital signal (CAN Bus).

I will dig into the wife's 2012 CR-V to see if this is true. I know it has ELD as I have monitored batt voltage while driving and saw the exact same behavior you described.

i have a 2014 Accord and the schematics for it. I think there is still an ELD but the alternator has a CAN bus signal to it.

one of the things that Honda addressed in the new cars is having the alt output go high when the head lights are on. some older models didn't have headlights sensed through the ELD, so people had dimming with full stock vehicles under normal use when the ELD turned the alt off. also different is that the alt is regulating 12.5VDC output in it's "low" mode and 14.4VDC output in it's "high" mode. under braking, the alt output will also jump "high". i document some of that behavior on my youtube channel.
