2010 HHR wall build

bondo'd these up, going to try and cover the whole trim panel in a seamless piece of suede (the port will be a lighter suede than the rest of the trim panel)

reason its 1/4" longer than the port is because i still have to make a 1/4" trim piece that goes on the port, so i accounted for that. im going to make that then have robin round over the whole thing. i have a router and roundover bit, but im not the best with a router, so i dont wanna slip and make a bit notch in my port and have to re do it.

really happy with how this is turning out! i only had a 1/2" roundover bit, im going to look for a 3/4" one tomorow and run over it with that, just to give it a little larger of a roundover.

porter cable is the new one, on the right. not a plunge, but oh well. i like it.

IMG_20110511_175420.jpg

came with a free laminate trimmer (basically a mini router with a 1/4" collet)

went over my 1/2" roundover with the new 3/4" roundover bit.

slopped some bondo on it, gotta get more tomorrow. wanna sand it down all smooth, no seams from the wood edges, no screw holes, nothing. then im most likely going to paint it black/really dark gray, thinking of using a textured paint, but a VERY thin texture, so its just barely noticeable.

****, have *I* been there!!! I had a 1.5 HP Porter Cable and was preparing to do raised panel doors for a kitchen remodel. In maple. Guy laughed. I wound up with the 3.X HP PC unit with variable speeds ($350). Hot router! But of course, the $150 bit set she picked for the the panel was 3" wide and my table saw extension with the built-in router area could not handle that size, so I had to make a custom extension for the other side to mount the new router (~$150). In the end, it all turned out great, but what a buying spree it QUICKLY turned into. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You might have been able to just buy a 1/2" collet for your old router though.

haha yea it is alot of work, and its gonna be even more so when i gotta sand all this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif but its gonna look clean when im done //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i thought about it, but didnt look much into it. and i saw the router for 160 with the other free piece, so i was like wtf, ill buy it.

the same router was 140 at HD, but no free laminate trimmer with it (goes for like 70 on ebay, 99 in stores) so that makes me happy. lol
