200A current draw - How big should my fuse be?

Get some 1/0awg wire, stop being stubborn. Do your Big 3 upgrade with it and then run a new line of it to where your amp will be. Use a 200-350A fuse at the battery. At the back of the run use a fused distro block to bring the gauge size down to 4awg. Fuse with a 80-150A fuse at the distro.

Lastly, don't ask for advice if you don't want to listen to it. 4awg can safely carry up to 150A. Anymore than that and you risk fire or damage to your electrical system and equipment.

So as long as I do that my factory alt should be ok? Also, I dont have a distro block becuase I only have an amp for my subs.

Only way to know is to hook it up and try it out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

not a chance. My stock 80 was struggling with less than a 1K rms.

rememeber. the more of a strain you put on your system, the more your voltage will dip. the farther your voltage dips, the more amperage it needs.

you still need to re-fuse the wire once you drop it in gauge.. which is where the distro comes in. I don't care if you're only running one amp, leave one output of the distro unfused. Fuse the other one.

OK, I guess that makes sense.

But John,

What are ur thoughts on this install with only a 80A or 90A alt?

depends. some cars can handle some can't. I can tell you I got slight dimmage in my civic with 800 watts and the Big 3 done. Different on all cars though. Newer cars will probably be better. Just hook it all up like we've told you, and then if you have electrical problems come back here for more. There are several inexpensive ideas and proceedures to help a struggling electrical system.
