To Whom it may concern,
First all of, thank you for taking the time out to read my son's story. Back on September 10, 2007, I found my 13 month old son floating on the top step of our pool. He was rushed to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Florida. He was there for 3 months and 3 days where the hospital realized they couldn't do anything else for my son and they released him to our care with 24/7 nursing. He was released on December 13, 2007. He was 13 months old at the time of the accident and he was in a coma from the drowning.
I posted my son's story online and an old friend of mine read the story and passed it along to a friend of her's that promotes car shows on Long Island, New York. This man read my son's story and without any questions he offered to help. He has never met me or my son, even to this day. He never donated any money, but what he did donate, I would have never thought in a million years, I would've received from a complete stranger. First he donated to us his friend Kevin. Kevin owns a web designing company and he designed and built my sons web site for free, paid for the domain name all from the kindness of his heart.
Its been almost 2 years at this point, when Kevin had donated to us an advocate that would start to get some major things rolling for Tristen Jacob. All of this from 1 man, a car show promoter, who still hasn't met me or my son, Tristen Jacob.
For the past 2 years Big Al has been running the Long Island Car Shows. His car shows are very similar to cars you would find in movies like, "The Fast and the Furious". Back in April of this year, Big Al, offered to me and my wife to come to this years event and he would be donating to help Tristen Jacob. You see we are trying to raise money for a Hyperbaric Oxygen Machine,(HBOT), this is an oxygen machine that will pump 3x the amount of oxygen into my son in a one hour session, then we normally breathe in one hour. We are hoping and praying this will wake him up from his coma. For us to take him to a facility for this treatment that is a none hospital setting, it can cost anywhere from $100- $300 per session. For a hospital setting, it can cost anywhere from $2500-$5000 a session, and to make matters worse, 99% of these places will not take my son because of his condition, they will not allow a child in a coma, that breathes on a vent go into their machines. About a year ago, we found a man in South Florida that was willing and able to donate free time for Tristen Jacob to go into one of his machines, you see he owned 2 HBOT's and was giving free time to any child in desperate need of HBOT. After the first treatment, we knew that this was going to work, and it started to show after each and every time he went into the machine. After the 12th treatment, my son started to breathe on his own and stayed that way for 18 days. Before this, he couldn't barely breathe on his own for a half a day. He only lasted for 18 treatments before he got a virus that was contagious and we couldn't bring him back to the machine again. When we started, the man told us that Tristen Jacob would need at least 100 sessions before we would see anything real, besides the little movements. So to take him to a facility or a hospital would cost way to much money, and with the medical insurance not paying for this treatment, we couldn't afford this on our own. So we have been trying to raise the money to purchase a machine. For what Tristen Jacob would need, will cost around $25000. So with Tristen's web site, the little fundraiser's that I do, and with the help of Big Al's car show, we hope to raise the money to purchase this machine.
A lot of places that we have gone to, to ask for donations, have turned us down because we never made Tristen Jacob a tax right off company, and because these companies won't get a tax right off, the won't or they say they can't donate. Big Al is donating to my son, whether we were or weren't a tax right off. That is why I am writing to you today. I want to give back to this man everything he is doing for my son. He told me I didn't have to, but the way I was brought up is that if someone helps you out, help them back even if they don't want it. So again, I am writing to you to let you know about this warm hearted man, who has been donating his time, and now donating his money to a boy, in desperate need of medical equipment, all because he wants to, not because he get a tax right off. And in these days of economic hardship, there are still some really awesome people out there that are willing to go the extra mile for those in need, and I feel that these people should be acknowledged.
