If you guys are unfamiliar with the '05 Wrangler Unlimited, a quick google search should clear that up. Not many people know of them outside the Jeep world. I'm blessed with a bit more cargo space for a subwoofer back there than the usual Wrangler; however, it's a soft top.
So here we go, I'm looking for a single ported 12 that falls somewhere under the $350 mark. I would like to run at or close to 1k watts, but I do not yet have an amplifier picked out. I'll be running at 1ohm to keep costs down. I'm going to be building the box, about 1.75^ft tuned to 34hz downfiring.
I listen to mostly country, some rock and rap mixed in. The goal is to sound good at mid volume and be able to occasionally get loud. Since I have a soft top I need to go with a sub that plays the lows well. So far I've got the Alpine Type-R, Sundown SA12 and DC Level 3 on the list of potentials. These were picked based on their ability to take the power and the recommended enclosure size. Also considered was the PSI Platform 1.
I'm leaning toward the SA12 because of its ability to play low well. Let's see what you guys have to offer/argue. I'd love to hear it. There's not much out there about builds in this vehicle.
