2005 Grand Cherokee Install....

Hi all,

I just finished installing a new, aftermarket Pioneer deck (just a DEH3000IB ?) in my 05' Grand Cherokee Laredo which has the Boston Acoustic speaker set up. Well, the sound is a lot better than the factory stereo offered, although the front tweeters are a bit treble-y for my ears - which leads me to my problem....

When I installed the FIRST deck from Crutchfield I ordered the wrong wiring adapter - I figured that as my Jeep is a basic Laredo, it would most likely have the basic stereo (it sounded like it), but as it turns out, if you have 6 speakers, then you have the "upmarket" stereo (there are also 10 pins on the wiring harness for the models that don't have navigation).

So, after Crutchfield exchanged the harness, I hooked it all up, only to find that whenever I adjusted the front to rear fader control, as soon as the sound was adjusted to about 3/5 rear to 2/5 front, the sound would intermittently drop out from the front speakers - the tweeters in particular.

So, after double checking all of the connections - along with the RCA's into the back of the stereo (as advised by the installation instructions that came with the wiring harness) - I began thinking it was a problem with the head unit, and as such, called Crutchfield and they happily replaced the unit with a new one.

However, after receiving the new one last night, I installed it when I got home from work, and the same problem (although to a lesser degree) is happening (and yes, I have adjusted the little screw in the black box that the wiring plugs into).

So, I am wondering - is it a problem with the Jeep amp ? It sounds almost like it's cross-over related as for example : if I'm listening to a song and the singer is singing, it seems fine, but as soon as any given song goes into say, a drummer doing a solo, or bass / drums playing together or something that doesn't have a lot of treble, the volume drops and sound only comes out from the back speakers (at a lot lower volume too) - but as I don't have any auto-electrical testing tools (and minimal skills to be honest), I can't pinpoint what it is.... either way, it doesn't sound right.

Also - I am not sure that mine even has an amp in it - as I've heard conflicting reports from different Jeep sites that some 6 speaker stereos in the WK series of Jeep (05 and up) either all have an amp or not.... FWEIW, the factory wiring harness has 10 "lines" going into it and there is a 30 amp fuse in the top left hand corner slot of the fuse box (the guy from Crutchfield asked me to look there when I called them with my first series of problems).

Has anyone come across this problem before when installing an aftermarket deck into one of these WK 's ? Or did I just get 2 bad head units ? If not, does anyone have any other ideas as to what it might be, as the stereo was working fine before, and even though the Pioneer deck is a cheap one compared to many others, it should at least function without dropping sound.

Thanks in advance.

get rid of the stock system all together //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Run your own amp and a set of comps and be done with it

i just bought the AMP bypass harness and hooked the harness directly into the amp outputs harnes to speakers and then wired speakers to headunit power factory amps are ghey with preset xover and they cut bass to the spekaers as the volume increases. i also bought the inline xover for the tweets in the dash and put them so they didnt get anything under a certain freq (bass blockers ) so u dont fry the tweets i recommend u do the same until, if, u upgrade to a mids amp i got the same 6 speakers/amp in my 300c you'll be much happier runs the speakers off h/u power as sad as that is
