2004 grand prix problems...

yo yo! Its my first post and glad I found a forum like this! Anyways I own a 2004 grand prix GT. I have two Diamond Audio D3 12" woofers installed and a Kenwood 1800 watt class D mono amp for the power. I also just installed a TKO 1.5 Digital cap to help with the power. My problem is after 10 minutes of use the subs will dim low, and maybe a 1 minute or 2 they will come back louder than ever. Yesterday did a little lookin under the hood and noticed the tensioner for the belt was shot, so I replaced that and my belt is tighter than ever and hopeful of it fixing the issue. Well that is a big NEG. My cap doesn't get any lower than 13 volts and idles at 14.2. It has the stock alternator due to apparently there is a HUGE difference from the 03 to 04 models and they aren't out yet even 4 years later. The battery is stock but still reading out perfectly. I haven't done the big 3 simply because I really have no idea what I need to do it. I had all this in 2003 cavalier and never did this with stock alt and batt, and this has a bigger amp alternator then the cavalier. The stock Grand prix alternator is 125 amps btw. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

ya it is probably a 900 watt RMS amp. i have a kenwood amp 9103d to be exact and it says 1800 watts max but it 900 watts RMS. i have that amp running im my grandprix and all is good. with stock electrical with big three.

the amp is a kenwood kac-9104d. Yea it is a 900 watt RMS at 2ohm. I will post ya a link!

ya that the newer model of what i have. i don't think you should have a problem running that amp. first thing would be do the big three.

yea i'll give it a shot. I bought the 2 year warranty for it and I took it back tonight because my father in law was having the same issue with another amp and it turned out to be bad. I got the new one in and still same issue. The only other thing I can think of is the tensioner being shot for so long the alternator is starting to go bad now.

my ex girlfriend had an 04, and she had serious alternator problems in it, on a stock radio. You may want to get yer alternator tested.
