2003 Silverado install

A friend of mine who's leaving Atlanta for a new job went off to Europe on vacation for a couple of weeks and left me his truck keys. I told him I wanted to pick up some furniture while he was gone. In reality, he'd bought a pair of 10" subwoofers months ago, and I wanted to do the install as a going away present. Here's what I came up with:

I originally intended the subs to fire downward. Here's how they fit:

Here's the mostly-completed install with the amp rack in the middle. The wires weren't hidden yet when I took this picture:

As it turned out, the amp didn't have enough power to run two of these Power Acoustik subs effectively. Check out the magnet on this sucker:

Also, the sound was a bit muffled with them firing downward. I ended up running both channels of the amp into one sub and flipping the box over:

I was a bit disappointed that the amp wasn't strong enough to run both subs, but it sounds pretty darn good even with just one. All in all, I'm quite happy with the results.

you guys must really be tight, sorry that your friend is leaving, thats a hell of a going away gift.

My best friend since we were about 8 years old (we're 22/23 now) lives on the east coast, i live on the west... i know how it is.

looks good...

ur muffled sound looks to be because u didn't leave enough room between the sub and floor...and that might be why u didn't think the amp had enough power for both..

a word of caution up firing like that..if someone sits just righ on that seat, it could push the seat into the sub...u need to check that with a fairly heavy person sitting on it..

and in case u think i'm full of it....here's my old 04 silverado ported enclosure for 2 10's, downfiring, ports to the back....and my single ten, port to the side, downfiring box.....

the single ten ported^^^^^^ again the memphis pr500d tha powered this was on the lil ledge behind the seat...

in both boxes i recessed the subs to get a bit more clearance. with the dual ten box, i used 1/2" mdf and seperate chambers....worked beautifully...

Wow, that's bad ***. I wouldn't have thought it possible to get enough volume under that seat for a ported box. You're right about the woofer hanging down too far. Unfortunately the magnet on it was so huge that I couldn't think of any way to raise it up without moving to thinner MDF. There was only about 1/4" clearance between the magnet and the top of the box. It also doesn't help that the surround on the PA's sticks out a full 1" over the mounting surface.

thanks...and depending upon power, thinner mdf can be used without flexing and such, the dual 10 ported enclosure is 1/2" mdf. by being dual chamber, that helped keep flexing down to a minimum , as well as it being a fairly low power application, under 1500wrms..

and yeah, PA's are like that...lol....but ur install does indeed look clean. i bet ur buddy liked it..

hey check this out a guy fabed some brackets to raise his rear seat about 3 inches or so so he could fit a larger box underneath. sweet idea i was looking for something like this just thought i would share as this is what i will be doing (untill i do a blow through but that comes after 24's air ride and body drop!)
