Have had a 2002 malibu ls for about 6 months now put a system in in regular single din pioneer head unit alpine mrv-m500 amp and two 12 mtx teminator subs. Notice that my lights dim whenever im playing music now not at low low levels I know every radio is different but even when the volume is at 12 it still dims headlights pretty bad. Now I Checked my ground its solid clean bare metal! I dont know why it would be dimming asked a local car audio shop why and he said most stock alternators should be able to handle up to 600 watts well I have a 500 watt amp @ 2 ohms but thats at 14.4 so why can my car not handle this? Does this mean my alternator is old maybe tired? really why I care is because im selling those 12's and putting in my alpine type r and I want to be able to power it with my MRV-M500 thats already somewhat of a low powered amp for that sub but the certificate said it really pushes 568 watts at @ 2 ohms. So I want to make sure electrically im fine so Im getting as much power as I can to that sub without a aftermarket alternator or a xs power battery.
