2001 ford taurus head unit (sigh)

it says you have to use that amp I guess or thing in the back, and use a wiring harness then run wire all the way up to the front. can I not splice the wire and crimp it or solder it to my headunits wires?

dang. so I cant bypass it? I have to run a new wiring harness to the new headunit? cause if the old cd player (oem) was there, shouldnt I already have all the wires there?

with the Part#: FD20B 98+ FORD SELECT HARN KIT it has all the wires and ant. ext. cable all you do is connect the wires to your new head unit and run the wire harness down the drivers side and connect the the ford harness and you are ready to go

I actually did an install in the exact same car about a month ago...it isnt that hard, but its a pain in the ***..what i did was first get the DIN tools and take out the stock radio, which was a ***** because mine wasnt too friendly. after that you have to take off all of the rotary controls from the back (with a phillips head) one by one...after that you have to put all of them back onto the new dash kit (if you get it)...now for the fun part:D pull up the carpet in the trunk where the box is...unplug the harness plug and plug in the new one (that you have to buy) which is about 20 wires or something retarded, but its held together with zip ties so, they stay as one..and now its like running amp wires...pull up the flooring and run it through. I did mine on the drivers side and ran it under my pedals and zip tied it on some piece of metal under the dash:laugh: (95 degrees out and everything was being a *****...got frustrated and lazy) im also a n00bt00b with this crap so, it could be easy and im just an idiot...well that lets you know how much of a pain in the a$$ it is...hope it helped ya a little, good luck with the install man:peace:

Can somebody explain the Taurus stereo to me. I don't see why you can't just start from scratch and install all new components and not worry about the "brain" in the truck area. If you replace the head unit, speakers and added an amp you shouldn't have to worry about any stock component right?

Any head unit in any car can be completely replaced.

If it comes down to it just run completely new power/ground from the battery, run remote from the ignition switch, and run all new speaker wires.

If your going to go to all that trouble of running a stock harness under the carpet etc wouldn't it be just as hard to run new wires for aftermarket equipment? Seems like a no brainer. And it won't sound like an ******* flapping when your dunzo.
