2001 cavalier 4door system

ok my sister is 16, im 15 and getting my license in march and we want a system.

Our car (2001 cavalier, 4 door, stock) has stock speakers and cd player, i need to know if i can out a new deck in.

Other info you can give me like where do get my amp and subs (and should i get a equalizer?)

So anything you can tell me to help would be nice.

I think i can install my self because im into electronics and i install all of my freinds electronics like steros, souround sounds ect.

Yes you can def. put in a new deck.

But you may want to get someone involved who has taken one apart before. The cavalier is a slight pain in the @$$ to take the deck out of if you dont know how. You have to take off the whole top of the dash then the front trim around the radio. Or if you want to try to attempt it yourself I can probably walk you through it. Just let me know.

I used to know the exact number of screws and bolts to take a cavalier dash apart

isnt it like 7 8mm bolts and 2-4 phillips head screws?

dunno the difference between 01 and 02 but my 02 sunfire you lose the door open ding the keys and headlights still on ding. and if a woman is gonna drive it that might be a bad thing

its on philips on the dash holding the vent on. then 2 7mil's under that cover. theres one on each end of the dash after you pull off the end pieces. and the glove box has 5 7 mil. screws. three on the front top then two gold ones recessed holding the airbag bracket. then once you pull the top piece off there are three along the top of the front bezel. you can then remove that piece and have acess to the radio.

And you can keep the door chime with the right adapter but they are expensive!!

ok thanks, well i wouldnt mess with it then, at best buy if you buy a deck for 99 or more they install it for free, if that doesnt include speakers them ill do them myself. thanks for the help again guys!!

ok well i found out that i can do it (thanks guys) now i need to know what to put in, im think the most for a deck $100

and the most for subs 250 because i dont have alot of cash, so what to all you car gods say i should get? (an ipod rdy deck would be nice but not needed) 1 sub, 2 subs, depends if i can get one that sounds better than 2 put together than yea ill take the one.

well dont forget that you will need to buy parts to fit the deck in there. so you may want to bump your budget up a few $. you will need a dash kit to secure the duck which can cost about 15-20 bucks then an antenna adapter which will be about 10-12 bucks and you will also have to decide on how you want to wire it. cause on that car your door chime runs through the radio. if you want to keep it you are looking at a very expensive adapter. if you dont mind loosing it you can just pick up a standard gm harness for that year. the guys at most best buy /circuit city shops will tell you that you cant and it will screw all kinds of things up like the airbags btu just tell them to shut up cause it doesnt. If they are selling metra parts then ask for a 2003 harness. but doing it with that harness will just require you to run a new switched line as the isnt one in your factory harness.

alright, is a door chime the thing that beeps wen ur doors open? and well not sure how my dad will take that but i guess ill try haha, say i didnt buy a deck and just a amp and 1,2 subs is there any disadvntage to having a factory deck, i kinda like it it has bas -9 thru +9 and stuff like that, what are the + and - of a new deck?

Yes that would be the door chime that I speak of. And just let your dad know that if you put the factory deck back in the door chime will work again. You just wont have a reminder that you left your headlights on or keys in the ignition with the door open.

A new deck will gove you more and cleaner power. which will allow your speakers to play at higher volumes with less distortion. Also with an aftermarket deck you can get into more features like mp3, sat/hd radio capability, better audio adjustments, low level outputs to hook up amps with a better signal, the list can go on all day for advantages of stock vs. aftermarket.

Ok so say i had a 250 budget on a sub (or 2) and an amp. This does not include a deck, can you recomend a amp and sub(s) for that price ($250)?
