2000 mercedes clk 430 fiber optic-wire?

my girl has a 2000 mercedes clk 430 convertible and i want to replace the speakers in the door but i think were gonna run into some problems. i called crutchfiel to see what size speakers are in the doors and they sais they dont have any info on that particular car. i know when she first bought the car somebody said something about the car having fiber optic wire to run the system. i dont know anything about that stuff i just want to put some nice components and a good clean amp in there to power them. whats my options-thanx for any help!!

it may have fiber optics to run from the CD changer to the main unit. Or from the HU to an amp, but certainly not to the speakers. The speakers will use regular wire. You need to pop the doors off and see what the speakers sizes are. Or call mercedes and ask.

most german cars are weird for installations. they use all sort of stuff. usually i would replace everything, all of the wiring included. the best way i found with european cars is to change it all or leave it all stock.

Or you could have a whole second audio system running, one that is completely independant of the stock system, save for the ignition wire.

that would be the safest thing to do. i bet they will tell you not to alter it though.
