Forgot to add:

On the 6th gen, it seems like the ALT is lower in amps, not sure the ratings on both, but I had slight dimming issues with the 6th gen, even with the BIG 3 & good battery.

On the 7th gen, no dimming issues, partial big 3 & factory battery. Both with equvilant installs.

You should see some of the work i've had to fix from shops, then look at the work i've had to fix from diy. the worst from the diy was always worse than the worst i've seen from a shop, but there has been a lot from shops that i had to fix that was really bad too. Find a good installer, who takes pride in his work, and you'll be happy every time.

the unsafe installs is why some manufacturers don't want to sell to the open public, they would rather have some control over who installs the stuff since it directly effects their return rates.
